NEW RIDER?
If you are new to motorcycling, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming. With Maeving, getting started is easy. Here's everything you need to get riding.
GETTING THE RIGHT LICENSE
To ride a Maeving in the United States, you generally need a motorcycle (M) license. Please note the following state-specific classifications:
To obtain a motorcycle license, you generally have two options: successfully complete a state-approved motorcycle safety training course or pass a motorcycle driving test at your local DMV office. If you are under 21, you may also be required to hold a motorcycle instruction permit.
No, a standard driver’s license usually isn't enough for riding a motorcycle. You generally need a motorcycle license or endorsement. Check your state’s requirements with your local DMV.
A common requirement across all states is the need to register all motorcycles. Riding an unregistered bike, even with a valid motorcycle license, is against the law. While DMVs traditionally mandated in-person registration, some states now offer online motorcycle registration and renewal options.
- California: Requires an M1 license.
- Louisiana and Mississippi: Require a DLM (Driver License with Motorcycle endorsement).

KEEPING SAFE
It's understandable to have safety concerns when it comes to riding a motorcycle but with the right gear, bike, and insurance, you can start to put your mind at ease.
It's important to dress for the slide, not the ride. In some states, wearing protective gear is mandatory, whereas in others it is not. However, we would thoroughly recommend always riding with a helmet, protective gloves, abrasion-resistant clothing (such as a leather jacket and reinforced denim jeans), and good-quality motorcycle boots, regardless of where you live.
With a lightweight frame, a simple twist-and-go throttle, and quality componentry, a Maeving motorcycle is perfect for new riders. We believe excellence is peace of mind. The Dunlop Gold Seal tires provide excellent traction - to be expected from one of the world's most respected manufacturers - while the linked brakes ensure effective stopping in a range of environments.
In every state, you must have motorcycle insurance or demonstrate financial responsibility, following the same liability limits as cars. This coverage safeguards your financial well-being in the event of accident-related damages or injuries, even if you're allowed to show only financial responsibility.

UNDERSTANDING ELECTRIC
Riding and owning a Maeving electric motorcycle offers unique benefits for new riders compared to a traditional gas-powered bike.
A Maeving motorcycle is lighter and easier to use than an ICE (internal combustion engine) bike. It's about half the weight of a touring bike and has no gears or clutch—just twist the throttle, and away you go!
Maeving champions removable batteries, allowing riders to take the battery out of the bike and plug it into any standard 3-prong socket. This makes "refueling" easy, as you don't have to plan trips to charging or gas stations.
Unlike many electric manufacturers, Maeving takes inspiration from the rich history of motorcycle design. The traditional "tank" on a Maeving celebrates iconic design but also offers a handy 2.6 gallons of lockable storage and a USB-C socket to charge your devices while you ride.
